a-olefins mainly include butene-1, hexene-1, octene-1, decene-1, and linear alpha-olefin (LAO) products between C10-C20. The mainstream production processes include ethylene oligomerization, mixed C4 separation, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, paraffin cracking, etc. High-end downstream products include polyolefins, POE, PAO and high-carbon alcohols.

Global major LAO manufacturers include Shell, Chevron Phillips, Sasol, INEOS and Idemitsu. China's α-olefin production capacity is insufficient, and octene-1, decene-1, etc. are heavily dependent on imports. Domestic technology development and industrialization are accelerating. With the development of polyolefins, POE, and the continuous development of downstream industries such as lubricants and surfactants, the market demand for α-olefins has steadily increased. PetroChina, Sinopec, Wanhua, and Satellite Chemical are accelerating the development of α-olefins and downstream technologies & Industrialization.

ASIACHEM Consulting's "China a-Olefins Technologies and Market Annual Report 2023" shows that by 2027, China's apparent consumption of hexene-1 is expected to exceed 500,000 tons. China has built three sets of octene-1 production units with a capacity of less than 10,000 tons. Companies such as PetroChina are developing directional production technology for the preparation of decene-1 from ethylene pentapolymerization.
