ASIACHEM "China TOPCon Cell Project Database" shows that since 2022, the newly constructed and planned TOPCon cell capacity in China has reached 224GW, bringing huge market opportunities for technology and equipment suppliers.
Solar cells are about to enter the era of 25%+ mass production efficiency. TOPCon and HJT are considered to be the most promising next-generation cell technologies. As a leading research institution in the PV industry, ASIACHEM has sorted out the latest progress of China's TOPCon cell construction and planned expansion projects in 2022 as follows. (Note: The completed projects are not within the scope of this article. The 2022 expansion projects counted in this article may not necessarily be put into production in 2022.)
Jinko: newly created 8GW+8GW+11GW+8GW
On January 4th 2022, Jinko announced that the high-efficiency N-type TOPCon cell was officially put into production at the Anhui plant. Anhui Jinko Phase I 8GW TOPCon project started construction on September 8th 2021, delivered electromechanical installation on November 1st, and delivered equipment on December 10th.
In February 2022, Jinko 8GW high-efficiency N-type cell project has been rolled off the production line at the Haining base in preparation for Tiger Neo series products. At the end of June, the project reached full production.
On June 28th 2022, Jinko Jianshan Phase II 11GW high-efficiency cell and 15GW module intelligent production line project started. It is understood that the second phase of Jianshan will continue to increase the production capacity of N-type TOPCon on the basis of the existing phase one, and the average efficiency of cell mass production will be more than 25%.
On July 30th 2022, the commissioning ceremony of Jinko Anhui Phase II 8GW TOPCon cell project was successfully held. Based on the success of the first phase of the Jinko Anhui project, the average efficiency of cell mass production has reached a new record. It is currently the cell factory with the highest mass production efficiency in TOPCon.
Jolywood: newly created 16GW
On June 30th 2022, the first high-efficiency solar cell of Shanxi Zhonglai 182/210 was successfully rolled off the production line. This project is currently the world's largest GW-level TOPCon AI intelligent cell factory based on 182/210 large-scale silicon wafers. On August 24th, Jolywood and Laplace reached cooperation on the procurement of key equipment for the second 4GW production capacity of the first phase of the Shanxi Smart Manufacturing Plant. The two parties completed the signing of the procurement agreement in Taizhou.
On September 22nd 2022, Jolywood said that the first batch of 4GW in Phase I of Shanxi 16GW High Efficiency Cell Intelligent Factory Project has been completed, and is currently in the ramp up stage of trial production. At the same time, the company is currently financing and preparing the remaining 4GW projects, and has initiated the selection and procurement of the 4GW equipment. The Phase II 8GW project will be launched in due time according to the financing situation.
Trina: newly created 8GW+10GW+15GW
On April 8th 2022, Trina held the "Suqian 8GW TOPCon Cell Project Kick-off Meeting" at in Suqian base. Trina confirmed the work content of this 8GW TOPCon cell project and announced that the project will be put into production in the second half of 2022.
On June 28th 2022, the launching ceremony of the Trina Industrial Park project in Xining City, Qinghai Province was held. According to the plan, the project includes 300,000 tons of industrial silicon, 150,000 tons of high-purity polysilicon, 35GW of monocrystalline silicon, 10GW wafers, 10GW cells, 10GW modules and a 15GW module auxiliary material production line. The two phases of the project will be completed by the end of 2023 and the end of 2025 respectively. The new production capacity of the Xining plant is also based on 210 technology to ensure the supply of main materials for Trina N-type 210 cell and modules.
On September 25th 2022, Trina announced that it plans to invest in a project with an annual output of 15GW high-efficiency cells and 15GW high-power modules in Huaian Economic and Technological Development Zone. The project will be implemented in two phases, one of which is 5GW cells + 10GW modules, and the second phase of 10GW cells + 5GW modules. TOPCon technology is expected to be adopted, and the first phase of the project is expected to be put into production in the first half of 2023.
Runergy: newly created 10GW
On March 18th 2022, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange disclosed that the IPO of Runergy Chinext was accepted. Runergy will build a 10GW TOPCon cell production line in the second half of 2022, and plans to implement a 5GW HJT cell fundraising project to stabilize its scale advantage and market position.
Suntech: newly created 2GW
On January 24th 2022, Wuxi Suntech 2GW TOPCon high-efficiency cell intelligent factory was put into production, which is the industry's first digital TOPCon high-efficiency photovoltaic cell intelligent production line jointly built by Suntech, LEAD and Leadmicro. TOPCon turnkey whole line intelligent equipment and automatic production line blanking equipment based on ALD coating technology and screen printing technology provided by Leadmicro, combined with the leading intelligent photovoltaic cell transfer unmanned AGV technology, and equipped with the FMS system of Suntech Power throughout the whole process, the production line can be compatible with 182mm and 210mm cells.
Drinda: newly created 16GW
On March 15th 2022, Drinda announced that in order to meet the daily business development needs of Chuzhou Jietai and accelerate the construction of the company's Anhui 16GW high-efficiency solar cell base project, Jietai Technology plans to increase the capital of Chuzhou Jietai. The total investment of the project is planned to be about 11.2 billion yuan, and it will be constructed in two phases: the first phase of the 8GW photovoltaic cell project is planned to start construction in the beginning of 2022, and it will reach the production capacity within the year, using the TOPCon technology route. On June 23rd, the first main equipment of Chuzhou Jietai entered the factory, which marked that Chuzhou Jietai production base officially entered the equipment commissioning stage.
GCL: newly created 10GW
On January 1st 2022, GCL released the feasibility study report on the change of the raised investment project for the 10GW efficient TOPCon photovoltaic cell production base (Phase I 5GW) project of Leshan GCL Integrated Technology. GCL plans to adjust the "Large Size Regenerated Wafer Semiconductor Project" and change the use of part of the raised funds, of which 500 million yuan will be used to continue to invest in the construction of the "Hefei GCL Integrated 15GW PV Module Project". The rest will be used to invest in the construction of "Leshan GCL Integrated 10GW High Efficiency TOPCon Photovoltaic Battery Production Base (Phase I 5GW) Project".
EGing PV: newly created 10GW
On September 21st 2022, the People's Government of Quanjiao County and EGing PV held a signing ceremony for the project of "annual production of 10GW N-type high-efficiency TOPCon photovoltaic cells, 10GW wafers, and 10GW modules" in Chuzhou. It is reported that the total investment of this project is more than 10 billion yuan. The total investment of the first phase of the new 10GW N-type high-efficiency TOPCon PV cell project is about 5 billion yuan. It is planned to start construction in October this year and put into production in June next year.
DAS Solar: newly created 5GW
On February 4th 2022, the first 182 N-type cell was born in Taizhou base. The cell efficiency is higher than 24.5%, and the bifacial ratio is greater than 85%.
Chint: newly created 4GW
On June 6th 2022, the mobilization ceremony of 4GW cell equipment in Phase III of Chint Haining Plant officially kicked off. Haining Phase III High Efficiency Cell Project adopts the current industry-leading n-type TOPCon technology route. On July 25th, Chint first n-type TOPCon cells and modules were successfully offline in Haining Base.
Zhongqing Group: newly created 3GW
On September 19th 2022, Zhongqing Group held the anniversary ceremony of the Xinyi Base and the production and efficiency reaching ceremony of N-type TOPCon cells. The successful production and efficiency reaching scale of TOPCon cells in Xinyi Base was 3GW.
Mubang High-Tech: newly created 10GW+10GW
On August 16th 2022, Mubang announced that it had signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the People's Government of Echeng District to build a 10GW TOPCon photovoltaic cell production base project, with an investment scale of 4.8 billion yuan.
On July 20th 2022, Mubang released an announcement that it signed the Investment Contract for 10GW TOPCon PV Cell Production Base Project with Wuzhou Government.
Yuhui: newly created 2GW
In June 2022, Yuhui 5GW module, 2GW TOPCon cell and PV material manufacturing base project will be located in Jiangsu Yancheng Economic and Technological Development Zone, with a total investment scale of about 3 billion yuan.
Yingli: newly created 5GW
On August 16th 2022, Yingli held the commencement ceremony of the 5GW efficient N-type solar cell material industrial park project. The industrial park project is located in Baoding Mancheng Economic Development Zone. The project is planned to be put into production successively in the first quarter of 2023, and the annual output of 5GW can be achieved after all projects are put into production.
DAH Solar: newly created 3GW
On July 1st 2022, Anhui DAH Solar officially signed a contract with the Administrative Committee of Anhui Chaohu Economic Development Zone on “DAH 5GW TOPCon Cell+Module Intelligent Manufacturing Base Project". It is understood that the project will build a production base for 3GW TOPCon cells and 2GW TOPCon modules, and the project is expected to be fully put into production after the Spring Festival in 2023.
Taiyi PV: newly created 5GW
On July 25th 2022, the signing ceremony of Xuzhou Taiyi PV Cell Production Project was held. The total investment of the project is 5.5 billion yuan, of which 5GW TOPCon cells will be built in Phase I with a construction period of two years, and 5GW high-efficiency HJT cells will be built in Phase II.
Jingyou Solar: newly created 10GW
On July 25th 2022, Tai'an High tech Zone held a signing ceremony for key projects. The 10GW high-efficiency PV cell manufacturing project is invested and constructed by Tai'an High tech Zone in cooperation with the municipal platform company and Jingyou Solar shareholder Shanghai Daode Investment Management Partnership (Limited Partnership) to establish "Tai'an Daode Double Carbon Industry Fund". It is understood that the total investment of the project is more than 4 billion yuan, and it will be divided into two phases to build a 5GW TOPCon cell production line.
Seraphim: newly created 5GW
On August 30th 2022, the signing ceremony of the annual 5GW TOPCon cell and 5GW module project was successfully held in Bengbu, Anhui Province, with a total investment of more than 5 billion yuan.
Royal Group: newly created 20GW
On August 21st 2022, Royal Group signed the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement with the Management Committee of Anhui Fuyang Economic and Technological Development Zone. According to the agreement, Royal Group plans to invest in the construction of cow ranch, dairy products deep processing plant project and 20GW TOPCon high-efficiency solar cell project.
CLTG & PLY: newly created 5GW
On September 13th 2022, CLTG released an announcement that it signed a Framework Agreement with PLY, and the two sides intend to cooperate in the field of research, development, production and manufacturing of ultra-high efficiency N-type crystalline silicon cells in two phases with the PLY Xuzhou project. The first phase of PLY Xuzhou production line achieved 5GW capacity. In the first stage, they will strive to complete the commissioning and trial production of 1GW equipment before December 31st 2022. In the second stage, they will increase the capacity of 4GW by 2023, and finally achieve the capacity of 5GW.
Taiheng: newly created 5GW
In September 2022, the commencement ceremony of Zhejiang Taiheng 5GW TOPCon high-efficiency solar cell project in Yibin City, Sichuan Province was held. The total investment of the project is about 2 billion yuan, and a 5GW TOPCon high-efficiency solar cell production line will be built.
