On Mar 28th 2024, CHN Energy Group Xinjiang Hami Energy Chemical Co Ltd announced to begin construction of the world first 2nd generation direct liquefaction coal to liquid fuel project in Xinjiang, which is also the first CTL project in Xinjiang.
CHN Energy Hami CTL project is planned to convert 14.2Mt/a coal in production of over 4Mt/a oil products, including 3.2Mt/a from direct CTL production lines and 800kt/a to 1Mt/a from indirect process lines. Eventually, the products from two liquefaction processes would be pooled for blending of specialty oil products.
“2nd generation direct CTL process was self-developed by China, of independent intellectual property right,” CHN Energy Group Xinjiang Hami Energy Chemical Co Ltd president Wu Zhenlin introduced. After the success of 1st generation CTL process application in Ordos, CHN Energy Group made serial process flow and equipment improvements, and formed the global first 2nd generation direct liquefaction CTL process PDP.
CHN Energy Group Hami innovation base is a coal mine, CTL, coal chemicals, new energy and new material integrated project. It is estimated of CNY170bn investment to be fulfilled in two phases. Phase I would construct coal mine, CTL section and wind/solar power generation section; phase II would add the production of PX (para-xylene), PGA (polyglycolic acid) and other chemicals. As a textile raw material, PX is expected to couple at downstream with Xinjiang textile industry; while PGA is a degradable plastic material, expected to help downstream daily necessities and agricultural plastic film industry development. CHN Energy Group Hami i energy integration innovation base project is scheduled to reach completion and start up by the end of 2027.
