Driven by the accelerated development of the global new energy power systems, semiconductor microelectronics, aerospace, and high-end medical equipment industries, PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone) and PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide), as two important specialty engineering plastics, have become irreplaceable strategic high-performance polymer products due to their exceptional heat resistance, chemical resistance, outstanding mechanical strength, and electrical properties.
In recent years, China has made remarkable progress in the field of specialty engineering plastics. The industry is accelerating its development, with leading enterprises such as Zhongyan Technology, Zhejiang NHU, and Xinhua New Materials emerging along the industrial chain. However, on the raw material and synthesis front, the production of PEEK's core monomer 4,4'-difluorobenzophenone (DFBP), as well as the polymerization process, separation, and purification of PPS, still face technical bottlenecks that urgently need to be addressed. In addition, the domestic substitution rate for high-end grades remains relatively low, indicating significant room for growth.
According to research by Asiainfo Consulting, the Chinese PEEK market size reached RMB 2.0 billion in 2025, with an annual growth rate of over 15%; meanwhile, the Chinese PPS resin market size reached RMB 3.5 billion, with an annual growth rate of nearly 10%. PEEK and PPS specialty engineering plastics are facing an urgent need to develop towards high-end grades, and industry insiders generally believe that the next five years will be a period of explosive growth in value realization.
